Problem Solving in Mathematics
In our world today, math is one of the many things in life you use daily. Problem solving is such a common thing that we sometimes do not even realize we are using it. Just by going to the store and figuring out how many items you can buy with the amount of money you have is problem solving. Math is finding a way to reach an answer to a problem. Whether it be finding the angle measurement of a triangle or figuring out much much money need to buy things, it's all math! Remember those days in math class when you said, "When am I ever going to use this?" Well there is your answer!

Below is one of my favorite math problems. Students will have to use the rules of subtraction as well as logic and common sense to figure out solving the given equation. Being someone who loves puzzles and figuring things out, I thought this would be a fun way to incorporate math into problem solving.
Given the equation below:
ABCDC
- BEAAC
_______________
BADAD
and the information that D=0, find the numerical value for each letter given in the equation. (Note: Each letter will be a single digit number and each letter will represent a different number). Be sure to show your work.
